This Paruppu thogayal is an age old recipe from grandma's cookbook.It always tastes great when had with hot rice and dollops of homemade ghee.We usually take it with menthya kuzhambu and roasted papad.A truly heavenly combo it is a always a huge hit.Paruppu is dal in tamil and from the numerous thogayal varieties this one is made with not veggies but dal.The dal as we all know has protein content and this one has very less oil content,so you need not worry about the caloriesNow we shall see how i made this..
INGREDIENTS
| Tur Dal | 1/4 cup |
| Channa Dal | 1/8 cup |
| Black Pepper | 1/2 tsp |
| Red Chillies | 3 |
| Asafoetida | a pinch |
| Oil | 1 tsp |
| Salt | to taste |
HOW TO MAKE
- In a kadai add oil and put tur dal and channa dal and roast till they turn golden brown and you get nice aroma.Add water to it and let it soak for 1/2 hour.
- Once soaked put it in a mixer and add the required salt.Grind neither too smooth nor too coarse.The texture should be medium.
- Paruppu Thogayal is ready to be served.
Notes
1.You can use use coconut scrapings while grinding the thogayal.
2.You can use only pepper corns or only red chillies while sauteing,i used both for colour.
3.This thogayal tastes best with hot rice with ghee,so eat it piping hot to enjoy the flavour fully.
