SABUDANA CHIVDA/JAWWARISI MIXTURE/DIWALI SNACKS

DSC03788It was some time back that I made this Sabudana Chivda,during diwali to be precise.It is an easy to make snack which can be made in a jiffy when you have assembled the ingredients.Also during navarathri people fast and this can be had as a snack during that period as well.Whatever the occasion,this is a crunchy and tasty snack.I made this for the first time and wondered how this would taste as I have not tasted this before.But when I tasted this I instantly liked this not only because of easy preparation but also very crunchy.I adapted this recipe from Tarla Dalal and it came out really nice.But since it is raining and as a snack it can be enjoyed anytime of the year,iam posting this recipe which I made during Diwali.See below the quick recipe an let me know..

Sabudana Pearls 1 cup
Groundnuts 1/4 cup
Roasted Gram 1/4 cup
Cashewnuts a few
Raisins a few
Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
Salt to taste
Red Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Oil to deep fry

HOW TO MAKE
  • Heat a pan of oil.Fry sabudana pearls once the oil is hot.Take out and drain in a tissue and then I a bowl.

  • Next fry groundnuts and take out.

  • Next fry roasted gram and take out once golden brown.

  • Fry now cashews and raisins and take out once cashews are golden brown and raisins bloated.Fry curry leaves and take out.

  • Mix all in one wide bowl after placing each on a tissue to drain excess oil.Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder and salt.

MILAGU THATTAI/PEPPER THATTAI/DIWALI SNACKS

Tommorow is Diwali and iam afraid all of you must be busy preparing sweets and savouries.I tried my level best to include many Diwali recipes this year in my blog and iam happy that I could do it.This Pepper or Milagu Thattai is a slight variaton from the original thattai recipe I have in my blog.It is easy and great to munch upon snack,which comes in handy for those who are doing last minute preparations.All the ingredients for this are readily and easily available in all homes,so there should not be any difficulty in making these super quick snack item.See down below the recipe for Milagu /Pepper Thattai.

INGREDIENTS
Rice Flour 1 cup
Urad Dal Flour 2 tsp
Black Pepper 2 tsp
White Sesame 1/2 tsp
Butter 2 tsp
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Deskinned Groundnuts 2 tsp
Curry Leaves a sprig
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tsp for dough+to deep fry

HOW TO MAKE
  • Take pepper and coarsely ground it in a mixer.

  • In a wide bowl add rice flour,urad dal flour,salt,butter,deskinned groundnuts,asafoetida,white sesame,curry leaves and salt.Add a teaspoon of hot oil and water and make a soft dough.

  • Make small balls out of the dough and flatten it as shown.

  • Prick each thattais to  prevent it from puffing.Drop them one by one in a pan of hot oil.

  • Fry till golden brown and take them out on a tissue.

Notes
  • You can grind curry leaves alongwith pepper if you don’t want it in pieces in thattai.
  • The prickig ensures that the thattai won’t puff and be crisp.
  • Adding jeera alongwith pepper while grindig also enhances tha flavour.
  • Always add a spoon of hot oil to the dough for crispy thattais.

AVAL MIXTURE/POHA CHIVDA/DIWALI SNACKS

DSC03073Mixture or chivda is a super snack enjoyed by all.And for this diwali iam posting those which are easy to make and with a crunch which can be nibbled upon any time of the day.This recipe is a quick fix recipe,meaning a chivda which can be prepared in a matter of a few minutes.This is very tasty  and as we all know aval or poha is healthy and filling too.I have also added a few spices and other ingredients to add flavour.All the things required are readymade and you just have to fry them and that’s it.Without wasting further time let’s jump to the recipe.

INGREDIENTS

Aval/Poha 1 cup
Roasted Gram 1/2 cup
Groundnut 1/2 cup
Cashew 3 tsp
Raisins 3 tsp
White Til 2 tsp
Curry Leaves 1  sprig
Oil to deep fry
Red Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp

HOW TO MAKE

  • In a pan of hot oil fry little by little rice flakes.Set aside on a strainer to absorb excess oil.

  • Fry roasted gram and set aside.

  • Mix all fried items in one vessel.Add salt,red chilli powder and turmeric powder.

  • Toss the mixture well.

  • You can fry cut pieces of copra or dried coconut and add to the mixture.
  • You can add fried red chillies and add to the mixture.
  • To spice up you ca also add kala namak or chaat masala.

CORNFLAKES MIXTURE/DIWALI SAVOURIES

DSC03037I have been posting too many sweet recipes and so I thought of posting a spicy yet less oily and guilt free snack of that of Cornflakes Mixture.I have already the classic Madras Mixture in my blog,but this is an easy and tasty version to munch upon without fear of adding up a few calories.This is a very easy recipe so much so that even bachelors and beginners in cooking can make for this Diwali.I have kept the spices very less,keeping health point in mind.Also use cornflakes which are plain in flavour.This crispy snack’s recipe is down under..

Cornflakes 1 cup
Groundnuts 1/2 cup
Roasted Gram 1/2 cup
Cashewuts a few
Raisins a few
Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 2 tsp

HOW TO MAKE

  • In a pan add oil and once it is heated add roasted gram  and curry leaves.Wait till it turns brown.

  • Add groundnuts now and wait till they turn brown.

  • Now add cashewnuts and raisins and wait till cashews turn golden and raisins bloated.

  • Add cornflakes now followed by salt,turmeric powder and red chilli powder.

  • Toss well and mix evenly.

  • Cornflakes Mixture is ready.

Notes

  • Since cornflakes are already done and crunchy,there is no need to roast them.Just tossing and giving a heat is enough.
  • You can increase the spice level by adding more chilli powder.
  • If you want you can add black salt or chaat masala too.
