Ellu sadam or til rice as you might is prepared in the tamil month of puratasi as an offering for LORD MAHAVISHNU.Also for LORD SHANEESHWARA, it is offerered as a neivedhyam on saturdays.It can also be made for a filling lunch box too.Til or sesame seeds are available in black and white colours.You can use either of these.We can make the ellu podi and store in too .Just roasting the ingredients is the work here,this is one simplest and ready to make rice mixes.
INGREDIENTS
| Cooked Rice | 1/2 cup |
| Sesame Seeds | 3 tsp |
| Urad Dal | 1 tsp |
| Channa Dal(optional) | 1 tsp |
| Mustard seeds | 1 tsp |
| Red Chillies | 3 |
| Asafoetida | a pinch |
| Salt | to taste |
| Sesame Oil | 1 tsp |
| Curry Leaves | a sprig |
HOW TO MAKE
- Gently roast sesame seeds.Now roast urad and channa dal along with red chillies.Keep it aside to cool.
- Powder it in a blender.Add it to cooled rice.Heat oil and add mustard seeds to temper along with curry leaves.Add it to the rice too.
- Mix well.
- Yummy aromatic sesame rice or ellu sadam is ready for offering.As i said tastes great when packed for lunch too.
Notes
- You can add while tempering peanuts or cashewnuts for added taste.
- You can powder this ans store in a container and when making add rice and temperings and mix.
- Always use sesame oil for tempering this.
