This citron or narthangai is one wonder fruit.The flavour it has is very overpowering and strong and the aroma to whichever food item it goes is simply comforting.This citron comes from the citron family and needless to say it has vitaminC in ample propotions.I have narthangai pachadi in my blog,which is also very tasty.People make pickle out of this narthangai and it is also sun dried with lots of salt which is used as a pickle kind of side dish with curd rice.Narthangai rice is yet another tempting and tangy rice which can be made as a good lunch box option too.See down below the recipe for this tingling rice variety..
INGREDIENTS
| Cooked rice | 1 cup |
| Citron/Narthangai juice | of 1 fruit |
| Sesame Oil | 3 tsp |
| Mustard | 1 tsp |
| Urad Dal | 1 tsp |
| Channa Dal | 1 tsp |
| Red Chilly | 2 |
| Asafoetida | 1/4 tsp |
| Curry Leaves | a sprig |
| Salt | to taste |
| Turmeric Powder | 1/4 tsp |
HOW TO MAKE
- Cut citron and squeeze out the juice.Strain to remove seeds and keep aside for later use.Take a pan and add sesame oil.Add mustard,urad dal,channa dal red chilly and asafortida.Once mustard crackles and dals turn brown add juice of citron alongwith turmeric powder and curry leaves.
- Add cooked and cooled rice.Mix well.
- Narthangai sadam/citron rice is ready.We had with javvarisi vadam.You can make mor kuzhambu as a side dish which would taste awesome.
Notes
- Check for the taste as some of the citrons may be bitter.
- Add cooled rice in which grains are separate.
- Always use sesame oil for this.
