MADRAS MIXTURE

DSC05244  No celebration is complete without sweets and savories and this Madras Mixture is an amalgamation of many savories put together and tastes great with piping hot coffee.Each Diwali it is a kind of ritual to prepare this and this year it is no different.I always make omapodi my daughter’s favorite along with hubby’s ribbon pakoda.Given below are the links tothe recipes that go into making Madras Mixture.You can add kara sev which i have in my blog,and also thenkuzhal.The variations are endless and you can suit your taste and liking accordingly.

INGREDIENTS

Omapodi 1 cup
Mullu murukku 3-4
Ribbon pakoda 1/4 cup
Kara boondi 1cup
Beaten rice/Poha/Aval 1/4cup
Roasted gram/Pottukadalai 1/4 cup
Groundnuts 1/4cup
Red chilly powder 1tsp
Black pepper powder 1tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
Curry leaves 2 sprigs
Cashewnuts a few
Raisins a few

 

HOW TO MAKE

  • In a kadai heat oil and add beaten rice,roasted gram,Groundnuts,cashewnuts and raisins and curry leaves.

  • As mentioned in the table crush omapodi,ribbon pakoda and mullu murukku to bite size pieces and mix all the items.Add salt,red chilly powder,pepper powder for enhancing the taste.
  • Store in a tight container.

Notes

  • You can also add kara sev or thenkuzhal also.
  • You can add fried almonds for richness.
