Masala vada is the favourite snack which cannot be stopped eating at just two or three.Yes,i usually end up making a little extra batter so that i can pack for my hubby next day also along with lunch to his office.I generally make this on weekend evenings and serve it as a snack,but you can serve with your lunch menu as well when you want an elaborate lunch or you invite friends over.A crispy snack made out of toor and channa dal this vada is simply irresistable.Scroll down for an easy and tasty recipe and try this for your family and do let me know.
INGREDIENTS
| Toor dal/Thuvaram paruppu | 1/2 cup |
| Channa dal | 1/2 cup |
| Urad dal | 2 tsp |
| Red chilli | 3 |
| Ginger | a bit |
| Onion | 2 |
| Curry leaves | a sprig |
| Coriander leaves | few leaves |
| Salt | to taste |
| Turmeric powder | 1/4 tsp |
| Oil | to deep fry |
HOW TO MAKE
- Soak toor,channa and urad dal in a vessel with water for an hour.After it has soaked drain water and add in a blender with red chillies and ginger.
- Grind coarsely.Take it in a vessel and add salt,turmeric powder,finely chopped onions,curry leaves,coriander leaves and asafoetida.
- Mix well.Make a ball and flatten it with your hand.
- Heat oil in a kadai and drop in vadas one by one.Take them out once they are done and nice and crisp.
- Drain on a paper tissue.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or any other chutney.
Notes
- You can add a pod of garlic while grinding the batter.
- You can also add 1 teaspoon fennel seeds along with the batter.I didn’t add since hubby dosen’t like it.
- Turmeric powder not only gives a nice colour but also good flavour,so don’t miss it.
