Navarathri is fast approaching and each day calls for a different naivedhyam of payasam along with various sundal varieties.I make this payasam or kheer with sugar as well and this one with jaggery is equally tasty and apt for festive occasions.Normally during pujas it is presumed that sweets prepared with jaggery is more welcomed by the GODS AND GODESSES.Whatever the reason this kheer made with sooji or rava is easy and fast to make.In our family this payasam is made during the festive season and is liked by one and all.Scroll down below for the easy and quick recipe of sooji kheer or rava payasam.
INGREDIENTS
| Rava/Semolina/Sooji | 1/4 cup |
| Jaggery | 1/8 cup |
| Cashewnuts | a few |
| Raisins | a few |
| Ghee | 1/2 tsp |
| Cardamom Powder | a pinch |
| Milk | 3 tsp |
| Water | 1/8 cup for syrup and 1 cup for cooking rava |
HOW TO MAKE
- In a pan roast rava by adding a little ghee.Keep it aside.
- In the same pan add jaggery and water.Wait till jaggery dissolves completely.
- Strain the syrup in a strainer.Cook rava in water.
- Once cooked add the jaggery syrup.
- Add milk and cardamom powder.In a small laddle like pan add ghee and roast cashews and raisins.
- Transfer it to the payasam.
- Delicious Rava Payasam is ready.
Notes
- While mixing with water make sure no lumps are formed as sooji tends to form lumps if not mixed quickly.
- You can make the same payasam adding sugar in place of jaggery.
- If you find the payasam thicker,make it yhin by adding more milk.
